THE MOVEMENT IS GEARED TOWARDS MUTUAL PARTICIPATION IN INTENSIVE CAPACITY-BUILDING SESSIONS AND DIALOGUE IN A SECURE ENVIRONMENT FACILITATED BY CBRN-TL

The Community Based Rehabilitation Network Timor-Leste (CBRN-TL) conducted an Intensive Session on Safe Space Dialogue with the Bin Alin Movement Team during the three-day event held at Talimoro village in the Ermera municipality, specifically at the Gleno Guest House from April 2nd to 4th, 2024.

The activity saw participation from seven women with disabilities and eighteen women without disabilities, totaling twenty-five participants. These participants hailed from ten villages within the Ermera Administrative Post, Ermera municipality.

The objective of this program was to bring together women with and without disabilities to share information and life experiences regarding the challenges they face in their daily lives. Due to their vulnerability, they often experience various forms of violation and discrimination in society.

The progress made during the Bin Alin Movement's joint activity was evident as participants were able to make small changes within their families. Apart from that, they also shared information with local authorities on how to use appropriate terminology for people with disabilities and implemented gender balance within their own families.

The Bin Alin Movement serves as a beacon of hope for people with disabilities, offering them support to voice their concerns and encouraging them. It's crucial for them to come together to discuss the challenges they face and create spaces to enhance their knowledge. Thus, this activity serves as a means to bring about change in their lives and in the community.

Furthermore, participant Higia Xavier Araujo dos Santos, a woman without disabilities, expressed her readiness to volunteer to help minimize discrimination against people with disabilities that still persists in society.

She believes that after participating in this training, they will be better equipped to disseminate information to the communities in the Postu, Suco, and villages. Therefore, even the smallest actions can influence society to eradicate discriminatory language. It is essential for everyone to recognize the value of people with disabilities, which can be achieved through effective communication and education to enhance understanding on these matters.
